The expedition set off in 1861.
A fine record, with a large fold-out map and another within the text. Also copious engravings, some full-page, some within the text. Size: each volume measures 22cms x 14.5cms.Pagination: vol 1, 395; vol 2, 384. Condition: In a good condition. Full leather covers a little worn and marked but holding well with fine gilt decoration and labels on the spine. Inside, small tear to fold-out map along one of the folds (see photo), a little foxing but generally in good clean condition, and holding well.
