At this point in history the European imperial powers were only just beginning to unlock the mysteries of the "Dark Continent". As you can see the vast majority of the African interior remains totally uncharted territory, as one would expect from a map printed on the cusp of the nineteenth century Charmingly Timbuktu (Here spelled "Timboctoo") appears far north of its now known location, which a Frenchman disguised as a Muslim located in the 1820's. Two slight red ink marks appear in the upper left portion above the plate-mark, which still remains visible. Print remains exceptionally legible despite this map being over 218 years old!
Print date on map states January 10th, 1794. Map is in excellent/mint condition and measures 9 1/4" x 11 1/2" and is sealed in plastic with a paperboard backing. Here is your chance to own a rare piece of history!
