Antique map of Goree Island. S a very rare, detailed, partially colored map unlike most maps of the time. This map shows Goree Island, off the main harbor of Dakar, Senegal. In reality the main slaving centers were farther north being St. Louis, Senegal or to the south being the Gambia. Goree is known as the location of the House of Slaves built by an Afro-French Metis family.

The House of Slaves is one of the oldest houses on the island. In addition this map shows the town, buildings, the fort, the port, sounding depths. The map is finished off with a large colorful title cartouche, a French miles scale converter, a letter key to the islands fortifications and a rose colored north arrow.

Map size is 11 1/2 x 9 1/2. OUR PHTOS DO NOT DO THESE WONDERFUL MAPS JUSTICE. TO SEE THEM IN YOUR HAND IS AMAZING. This is part of the Kit Kapp Collection. He was a very famous map collector, author, and cartographer. Many of these maps were priced by him prior to 2009. All these maps will be for sale within the next few months. A few have his initials KK or KSK on them. Many of the , aps have the research that Kapp did including where the maps came from, who the cartographer was Library of Congress Number, and other information highlighted on the back. Kit has done the work for you.
