Covers the Eastern cape area and northwards up to present day Maputo in Mozambique Beautifully illustrated with vignette engravings of Port Natal, the town of Durban and. To the lower right and the entrance to Port Natal upper left. Many tribal areas are depicted.The level of detail can be appreciated from the close up image provided. An excellent example of the preferred Montgomery Martin edition without the central fold. Free of repairs or restoration. 12.5" x 9.5" (320mm x 240mm) including the borders, with margins beyond. John Rapkin was a mapmaker who was concerned with the aesthetic value of his work as well as cartographic content. Rapkin worked in close association with the equally respected publisher John Tallis.
